Rapid opiate detox as an aid to break addiction

Monday, December 31st, 2007

There are many people in the clutch of drugs to the extent that the addiction has made life traumatic for those indulging in it as well as their family and friends. Most of these people would give anything to get rid of their addiction without having to suffer the distressing withdrawal symptoms. The cold turkey method is downright frightening to some and may even be dangerous at times. The rapid opiate detox method comes as a blessing to these people. However, it is important to realize that it is not the whole and soul cure to the addiction.

There are several methods of rapid opiate detox. Most are similar to the Waismann Method, which starts by sedating the addict. While the patient is unconscious, he or she undergoes a procedure that block’s the cerebral receptors from opiates. Other types of medication are used to help the patient’s body handle the reactions to the rapid withdrawal. Depending on the medications and procedures used, the patient awakens after four to 48 hours without a craving for opiates and no memory of withdrawal.

Anyone familiar with addiction knows that rapid opiate detox is not a true cure. Take the coffee fiend, a common type of addict today. Although coffee is not as addictive as narcotics, the coffee drinker will go through a mild physical withdrawal from caffeine once coffee is removed from the diet. The symptoms will include headaches, for instance. After some time, the physical withdrawal will go away, all the caffeine will be gone from the body and the coffee fiend will be “cured.” You and I both know that the cure will last as long as the distance to the nearest coffee shop. The procedure for rapid opiate detox does not include any treatment for the problems that led to addiction in the first place.

In order to cure a person of the addiction it is important to look at the root of the problem. Unearthing the reason that first led the person to the addiction will be helpful in finding a solution to the cause. If the stress or emotional problems that drew the person to obtain relief through the opiates, are left unattended he will again be tempted to take recourse to it when he finds himself unable to cope with similar problems. Another factor that may be a hurdle in effectively implementing the detox program is the friend circle of the addict; if they too are addicts, sooner or later he will be pulled into the quagmire yet again.

So, while the rapid opiate detox method is an effective way to deal with addiction, it is just one side of the coin. The other and more important side reflects the psyche and surroundings of the addict which must be made conducive to long term de-addiction.

Rapid detox method as a stopgap arrangement

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

There are various substances that people get addicted to. One of the primary reasons why an addict is not able to successfully complete a detox program is the inability to handle the withdrawal symptoms. Of help here is the rapid detox process, which is medically considered to be a procedure that completely or partially helps to alleviate the withdrawal symptoms. This helps a person to better deal with the detox process and regain his health.

Understanding rapid detox method:

It is important that people understand the difference between the rapid detox and the real detoxification programs. Rapid detox is only an intermediary measure to prepare the patient for the actual detoxification program. The first step in this procedure is the anaesthesia assisted opiate detoxification. This is very important for the success of the ultimate program, because the better the pain withdrawal symptoms are managed, the better are the chances for the patient to stick through the program and rid the body of its dependency on whatever drug is in question.

Rapid detox is normally carried out in a hospital under general anaesthesia. This procedure should be carried out under the supervision of qualified medial personnel (anaesthesiologists) who are experienced in carrying out detoxification. This process, also known as AAROD or anaesthesia assisted rapid opiate detoxification, blocks the dependency of the drug addict by interfering with the receptors in the patient’s brain. This process normally takes six hours, where medication is given to the patient to bypass the withdrawal symptoms. Since it short-circuits the withdrawal symptoms, it does not trigger any pain.

The real detoxification starts after the rapid detox has been successfully undertaken. Though it sounds easy, the process is extremely difficult. The success of the program would depend upon the addiction time and the physiology of the patient. The rapid detox is usually applied for opiate drugs addiction like Codeine, Lortab, Morphine, Percocet, Dialudid, Oxycontin, etc which are normally used as painkillers.

It is easy to fall into the trap of opiates if a person has undergone a surgery, severe injury or experiences any form of chronic pain and is unable to counteract any amount of pain without it. Even after there is no further need for the painkillers, the person is extremely scared of giving it up owing to the physical dependence that has been established. Doctors warn patients of this dangerous trend before they prescribe these drugs and advise them to keep control on themselves and not use the drugs in higher doses or over an unnecessarily prolonged period so that they do not end up with another more serious problem after getting rid of one.

Oxycontin detox program to bring life back on track

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

To lead a healthy life it is essential to keep oneself immune to the lure of drugs of all kinds. One prescription drug that is used for treatment of cancer patients and chronic pain sufferers is oxycontin, which has unfortunately found its way to the streets of USA leading to hard core addiction to it. The drug was FDA approved in 1995 as a painkiller, which due to its misuse leads to about 120 needless deaths in a year. A person abusing oxycontin can suffer from acute physical dependency on the drug as well as some serious adverse effects on the body if used over a prolonged period in high doses.

How detox centres deal with the problem:

Thousands of people are being sent over to detox centers every year for them to recover. At these centers, besides giving mental assistance, physical detox is also provided, to get rid of the left over toxins due to the intake of oxycontin. An oxycontin detox is much similar to detox of any other drug, and it involves many different stages.

At preliminary stages, the patient who is undergoing the oxycontin detox will suffer from withdrawal symptoms such as perpetually being tired, frequent hot and cold sweats, heart palpitations, constant joints and muscles pain, vomiting and nausea, constant coughing, diarrhoea, insomnia, and much more.

Most of the detox centers nowadays have changed their detox plans when it comes to oxycontin detox compared to traditional drug detox methods. Rather than just emphasizing on the superficial problems and the consequences associated with drug use, these modern ones look right to the root of the problem, by giving them various types of treatments such as blood chemistry analyses for the purpose of self medication, hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, and many more.

By treating the addiction at the mental, physical and social level, oxycontin detox can achieve high rates of success. Detox centres make sure to provide medications and nursing assistance, psychiatric assistance, spiritual counselling and any other therapy that they deem is beneficial in oxycontin detox. The nutritional aspect of the patient is especially taken care of so as to ensure that the body is not weakened permanently and also to strengthen it to its original condition.

If you or a family member requires an oxycontin detox, consult your doctor for a good detox centre so that you may repair the damages caused to the body as a result of oxycontin use.

Opt for an opiate detox program at the earliest

Tuesday, December 25th, 2007

With most youngsters being actively involved in sports and outdoor activities, the possibility of injuries is quite high. To provide relief from the pain arising out of these injuries, doctors prescribe painkillers to them, which soon become a necessity in order to either manage the pain or to be able to carry on with their sporting activities. So, the addiction of youngsters to opiate drugs is often a consequence of unfortunate circumstances.

How the dependence is established:

The drugs most commonly prescribed by the doctor for severe pain are Vicodin and Percocet. These two drugs in particular are responsible for a good majority of the addictions among teenagers. What would start as an instant pain killer treatment for some acute injury would gradually develop into total addiction. How?

The kids would either continue it for longer than the doctor prescribed or raise the dosage to manage the pain. Either way, they would get hooked onto their use, and over a period of time, they would realize that if they stop taking these drugs, the pain would come back – so they would continue with it – until it gets totally out of hand.

The opiate detox process:

As soon as the children realize that they are addicted, they would try to get away from it. Most of them do not realize the pains that an opiate detox program involves when they seek one; and when they find out through experience, most of them leave the opiate detox program half way through. This is why the teenagers who want to fight the addiction need the total support and continuous encouragement from their family and friends.

The greatest deterrent in the opiate detox program is the pain that assaults the body in overwhelming waves as withdrawal symptoms. The pain, as measured in medical terms shoots up from level two or three to levels ten and twelve, when it becomes almost unbearable. This is the direct impact of withdrawal symptoms and very few can sustain their decision when they come face to face with such debilitating pain.

It is therefore, more desirable to apprise the patient and his family of the impending difficulties. The first phase of the opiate detox process is marked by great sufferings of the patient that are manifested as symptoms like, nausea, anxiety, sleeping trouble and so on. Knowing well this crisis, doctors in the second phase of opiate detox use some non-addictive pain killers in place of the one that the patient is used to. This helps to provide some relief to the patient so that he may be able to quit the habit through less distress.

Give your body’s natural detox system a boost

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007

The human body has been designed in such a way as to detoxify itself with the help of its inbuilt detox mechanism. This is vital because our bodies have to bear the brunt of all kinds of toxins and pollutants present in the food, water and air. The body organs that are assigned the task of detoxification are the liver, gall bladder, colon, lungs, kidneys as well as the skin. Though the body is equipped to handle the detox process on its own, a little help from us will ensure its proper working as well as enhancement in its performance. Our natural detox system works through the above mentioned organs and glands of our body to eliminate all the unwanted toxins from the body. But when you ensure your body gets a minimum of eight glasses of water a day you also ensure that your kidneys along with your bladder is doing its part of detoxification.

Intake of the required amounts of fibre is yet another way to ensure that your digestive system performs the natural detox process well. Healthy eating habits such as consuming vegetables and fruits will help your liver perform well too. When you are trying to boost your own natural detox, try avoiding red meat, dairy products and fried foods for some amount of time.

Healthy lifestyle:

Exercise is yet another helping hand to your natural detox system, which works by increasing your metabolism and also through sweat that will cleanse your pores as they throw out the toxins from your body. It is very important that you understand how your body works in order to be able to give it a helping hand with the natural detox process. This in turn will help you be healthy and have glowing skin as well.

Exercise does not always have to be intense; breathing exercise is great for cleansing your lungs, and simple Pilates or yoga will help you sweat out all the toxins from the body when done regularly.

Lend a helping hand:

Simply allowing your body’s natural detox system to perform to its capacity is enough to keep you healthy. This you can achieve by following a healthy diet and exercising regularly. However, if you wish to further detoxify your body, you can opt for professional detox methods once in a while. Teas, specific diets, medications etc. are used in professional detox methods.

Keep an eye on your health by correctly interpreting your body’s health signals and following a regular health check up schedule. This will keep you abreast of the changes taking place in your body so that you may take the necessary steps required to keep you in prime health.

This detox program has a holistic approach to the detoxification process by emphasising on good diet, regular exercise and herbal supplements.

People who’ve completed natural body detox say that it’s difficult at first, but that after they’ve completed the program for the first time, they are convinced to come back and do it again and again as they feel the need for it. Natural body detox is more than just a detox diet; a detox diet will help you clean out your system a little, but in order to really clear out your system for good you have to combine a healthy detox diet with an herbal program to stimulate internal cleansing. Of course, exercise is a good addition to either a pure detox diet or to a detox diet combined with herbal cleansing.

The need for detox program:

While some people are more in need of detoxification than others, it’s also true that absolutely every body can benefit from a good detox program. Even those of you who only eat organic vegetables and high fibre carbohydrates can benefit from a detox diet and an herbal cleanse. While there are symptoms used to predict how badly one is in need of a detox diet, it’s also true that absolutely everyone can become just a little bit healthier by following such a program.

A natural body detox will take all of the toxins out of your body. Once again, you might not, today, feel like there are all that many toxins in your body, but there surely are. From second-hand smoke to polluted air to hormones in food and residue of pesticides, everyone on the planet has toxins in their body, especially in their digestive system. The best way to eliminate these toxins, and the only way to do it completely, is through a natural body detox program.

The benefits from a natural body detox are varied ranging from increased metabolism, higher immunity to diseases, fewer incidence of headaches, increase in energy and less fatigue, improved skin tone to a greater desire to exercise. The importance of a regular liver detox program

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

A vital organ involved in the detoxification process of the body is the liver. The level of toxins entering our body is very high and the body has to constantly eliminate these, a function performed by the liver along with some other organs. The liver acts as a natural sieve to strain out the impurities that are able to breach the body’s defences to enter it. The immunity of the body is also boosted if the liver remains in good health.

One of the most important roles of liver besides helping the natural detoxification process is preparing and storing glycogen, which can be later broken into glucose when the body needs extra energy.

Why it is needed:

Today’s world is highly polluted and adulterated. The food, the air, and the overall environs everything brings in some or the other toxins into the body. Aided by certain hormones the liver breaks down all these toxins into water-soluble compounds so that they may be easily excreted out of the body in the form of urine and faeces. The continuous influx of toxins at times leaves some of it behind in the liver and the body in general. The residual toxins overload the liver in due course and hence slow down its efficiency in eliminating the toxins in the body. When this happens, the body on the whole suffers from a number of ailments.

Some of the most prominent symptoms are constant fatigue, bad digestion because of lowered bile flow, acute headaches due to adding up of toxins in the blood and a high vulnerability to viral fevers and minor infections. It is therefore extremely important to have the liver detox program at least once in two years, so that it can flush the toxins off and give the liver a boost to perform at its peak efficiency again.

A good thing about liver detox is that most people can easily do it. The most widely used method of liver detox is the liver flush which is a very effective cleansing technique, at the same time being so simple that anyone interested can do it. This liver detox method works through an exclusive diet of fruits, raw vegetables and water to be followed for a certain fixed time period. Using herbal teas and doing some light exercises can enhance the effectiveness of the detox process.

There is an herb that is also quite valuable in liver detox program. This is the milk thistle, which contains a large number of antioxidants that are highly beneficial in preventing damage to the liver. Though there are various forms in which the milk thistle is available, the pill is the most popular one and preferred by most people.

Lemon detox diet- the liquid way to good health

Monday, December 17th, 2007

With processed food becoming the norm of the day, there is very little of good health that we put into our lives. As a consequence, our body is under severe strain with the natural detox system facing the brunt of it with more waste load to take care of. Giving the body a break from solid food for a while periodically is a good way to detox the body. One such method is the lemon detox diet, which helps the body relax and recover from the dietary overload.

The lemon detox diet consists of substituting a beverage mixed with water, lemon and other ingredients for solid foods for a period of time. The time frame can vary based on your previous experience with detoxifying your body, and the results you are hoping to achieve.

Lemon detox diet recipe:

To stir up a glass of the lemon drink that is used in the lemon detox diet, you will need two tablespoons of Madal Bal Natural Tree Syrup, two tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, and a pinch of cayenne pepper or ginger to taste. Fill your glass containing these ingredients with hot or cold water and enjoy! Whenever you feel the urge to grab something to munch, mix yourself a glass of your lemon drink instead. For best results, try to consume six to nine glasses each day.

Time frame for the lemon detox diet:

The time frame for the lemon detox diet can vary considerably, depending on your health, experience with detoxifying, and personal preference. The full detox should take place for at least seven to ten days. If you prefer a more relaxed version of the program, you can substitute two meals a day with the lemon drink, and eat one full meal at lunchtime. If you select this more relaxed approach, you can continue with your detox program for up to one month. You can also choose a maintenance plan that includes one detox day each week. This program can be the easiest for many people to follow, and will give very satisfying results.

Though the lemon detox diet tends to make a person feel lethargic and weak, the biggest hurdle is the psychological aspect. It is very tough for us to imagine going without any solid food for days. Once you conquer this mental block, you can easily stick to the detox diet and its benefits will be visible to you soon. The toxins responsible for many of the ill effects on the body will be flushed out and you will discover a new revitalized self.

Lemonade detox diet- a tangy way to detoxify the body

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

We all have heard about the benefits of lemonade as a weight loss aid, however, not many know that it also is an effective body detoxicant. Many people desirable of detoxifying themselves have done so with great success using the lemonade detox diet but people must be warned that though it may appear to be an easy way to detox the body, it is actually not so.

Dieting along with detoxifying:

The lemonade detox diet is simple as it basically consists of lemonade, which you can make at home as you choose. For example, you can make lemonade from fresh lemons or use a ready-made mix but, you must ensure that it does not contain any sugar; the only sugar you can use is a replacement such as Splenda. If you are making the lemonade at home with fresh lemons you can use maple syrup as some recommend as it contains essential vitamins but remember that it contains sugar and you don’t want to over do it.

Lemon works as a natural cleanser for the colon and it is very high in vitamins and nutrients so, you don’t suffer any loss of these in the lemonade detox diet. Therefore, everyday for a week or two at the most, all you need to do is make a gallon of lemonade detox diet drink and have the same throughout the day. You can have as such water as you like along with the lemonade detox diet as it will help cleanse your body and replenish any lost fluids in the process.

Improvisation:

If you think that the lemonade detox diet is not feasible for you to adopt, you can improvise the diet to suit your needs. Along with regular healthy meals you can consume the same amount of lemonade as you would if solely using the drink. The citrus juice works by slowing down the breakdown of carbohydrates, which then throws a spanner in the wheels of production of high levels of insulin that is the real culprit behind hunger pangs and consequent weight gain. You must make sure that you do not indulge in junk food while on a lemonade detox diet but stick to healthful food or you will be sorely disappointed at the lack of success in detoxification.

It must also be kept in mind that the lemonade detox diet is supposed to be a complete diet in itself so if you improvise this diet to your convenience, though you will be able to extract some benefit from it, it will not be to the full extent. So, in order to give your body a thorough detox experience, try out the lemonade detox diet.

The ionithermie detox treatment is taking the world by storm

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

A relatively unheard of method of body detox is the ionithermie detox process. In 1979 the French biochemist developed this treatment, which has found its way to the USA only in the past few years. The ionithermie detox method is said to improve the muscle and skin tone, increase firmness, promote fast weight loss, improve circulation to specific areas, re-mineralise, balance hormones, enhance lymphatic drainage system functioning and of course, detoxify the body. All this, within an hour.

The detox process:

The ‘treater’ and ‘treatee’ first agree on the area to receive treatment. A mixture of purifying algae, ivy and amino acids is applied to the area. These are the ingredients that increase circulation, break down cellulite, and release toxins trapped in the fatty deposits. A layer of fabric is wrapped around the Ionithermie detox ingredients and clay is applied over it. The clay is infused with algae and it is meant to conduct electricity. Several electrodes are placed along the area to be treated.

Ionithermie detox depends on a mix of galvanic and faradic electrical stimulation to work its magic. The galvanic stimulation uses positive and negative ions to extract toxins from deep within the body. The faradic stimulation is intended to work as an exercise to promote muscle and skin tone. The trained therapist oversees the mild electrical applications to balance results with comfort. After the treatment is completed, the clay is removed and a soothing lotion is applied.

After the first treatment, amazingly, most patients show a markedly visible loss of several inches in the treated area. However, it must be remembered that the benefits in terms of weight loss will not last a life time until a healthy diet plan and exercise regime are coupled to it. Although the loss of one to eight inches is temporary, the muscle firming and detox effects are there to stay.

So, for all those wishing to lose weight and improve their overall health, the ionithermie detox method is a great way to give your diet and exercise objective a good start. There are several products related to the treatment that you can take home so as to regularly give the treatment benefits a touch up. The fast spreading word of the benefits of the ionithermie detox treatment has resulted in spas acquiring the equipments and trained personnel so that they may provide the treatment to their clients. The catch to the it is that the medical community takes the claims of ionithermie detox treatment with a grain of salt while its beneficiaries swear to its wide-ranging beneficial effects.
